FAQ

How do I know I've found the right builder?

Due diligence matters, and nothing is more revealing than the in-person conversation with the builder. The people you’re trusting with your home and your investment should show real experience, communicate clearly, and answer your questions without hesitation. By the end of that meeting, you should have clarity about whether they have the judgment and systems to deliver exactly what you need.

Why do the best subcontractors and installers want to work with Devito & Jenne?

We respect their time and craft, and treat them like valued partners. We inspect work quickly and pay promptly — not the industry standard of 30 or 60 days. We efficiently manage scheduling, material deliveries, and inspections, so crews arrive and get to work without delays. In return, we get their A-team, not their B-team — and so do you.

When will I know the cost of my project?

It depends on scope. Smaller projects — kitchens, bathrooms, outdoor living spaces — can often be estimated within a few days of our first conversation. Larger renovations and custom builds require more detail and planning, but we provide a preliminary estimate early so you can make informed decisions. As details develop, we refine the numbers together. You’ll always know where you stand.

How do you effectively manage my project schedule?

Three factors greatly influence the pace of construction projects: planning and approvals, homeowner decisions, and trade and vendor coordination. We lead the planning and engineering phase efficiently, and we manage subcontractors and suppliers through a deliberate, highly organized process designed to eliminate gaps and prevent issues before they occur. We guide clients to confident decisions, drawing on nearly 2,000 projects of experience.

How often do I receive project updates?

Personal relationships with clients are our North Star, and we strengthen them through clear, consistent communication. You always have direct access to our project managers and founders, plus a custom project management portal with your full timeline, budget, and progress photos. You’ll also receive a Monday email summarizing your project and outlining the week ahead. At major milestones, we walk the project together to evaluate progress and plan next steps in person.

Can I live in the home during a renovation?

Most home renovations can be completed while you remain in your home. We design the construction phasing to be efficient while minimizing impact on your daily life. When appropriate, work areas are fully contained using floor-to-ceiling plastic barriers, dust control systems, and negative-air ventilation. Job site cleanliness, safety, and security are top priorities; every team member, subcontractor, and vendor is briefed, supervised, and given detailed directives specific to your home. Before work begins, we walk you through the schedule, access points, and protections in place, so you know exactly what to expect.

How do change requests work?

Change requests can be submitted through your portal or discussed directly with your project manager or founder. We review the request, clarify the scope, and—if it affects cost—issue a simple change-order addendum through the portal for your approval. Once approved, it becomes part of the contract. We make sure expectations and outcomes are crystal clear so every change is a success.

Do you work with architects and designers?

Yes. We work seamlessly with architects and designers you’ve already chosen, or we assemble a full team of trusted professionals for clients who want us to coordinate everything from the start. The earlier we’re involved, the more effectively we can align design, budget, and constructability. Regardless of who’s on the design team, we serve as the central coordinator to keep plans, budget, schedule, and execution moving in sync.
